Where We Started

Unlike most producers, engineers and musicians, Greg had no desire to be a musician or work in the music business. It wasn’t till the age of 16 that he even started playing an instrument (Bass Guitar). Up to that point he primarily just focused on school and sports (football, basketball, and baseball). Becoming a professional athlete was the goal. However, before the start of his sophomore year in high school, his musician parents decided to try and make him learn an instrument once again. So Greg started to play bass — his parents owned a bass, they knew how foundational bass was to any band, and they needed a bass player for their band. It checked all the boxes. He quickly found out how much fun and joy you could have playing music, and at the same time how difficult it is to play an instrument well. Being stubborn, he decided to stick with it. Slowly, music became the focus, not sports. At 19, he joined his first serious band while in college, playing local gigs in Dallas.

At the end of their first EP, the band had grown a lot and had legitimate recordings. Greg made several important discoveries: a producer can really help shape an artist or band; he didn’t yet know anything about production beyond playing his bass parts; and as good as the experience was, the songs still didn’t measure up to his favorite records. The band eventually stopped being active, and Greg decided to focus on his degree in mechanical engineering while continuing to grow as a bass player.

A couple of years later, working as a mechanical engineer and still gigging, Greg’s band reformed to finish material that was never completed. The final outcome wasn’t exactly what he had envisioned — and that is when Greg decided he needed to understand the recording and production process much better. Over the next couple of years he began learning how to record, engineer, and produce music while working days and performing on weekends.

As Greg deepened his understanding and gained practical experience, he discovered how much he enjoyed the recording process and making great songs — and how much he enjoyed helping other artists and bands. Realizing many musicians faced the same challenges, he started offering production services to local artists.

Eventually, Greg’s passion for music production led him to a life-changing decision. In 2016, he took a leap of faith and quit his day job as a mechanical engineer to pursue music full-time. Today, he works as a recording engineer, mix engineer, mastering engineer, and music producer at his studio, Blue 13 Productions.

Our Mission

Our goal is to create the best music we can for every artist. Big or small, it doesn’t matter. We just want it to be right for the artist.
